With Police forces in the UK no longer attending mental health incidents (unless there it is related to crime or threat to life) there is a huge void to fill in dealing with those suffering from acute mental health episodes. Both Police and Ambulance services are at breaking point with the demand in recent years which is still on the increase.
Through its relationship with the NHS Ambulance and Police Services, LAS is aiming to provide a service which will alleviate pressures from statutory services and hospital A&E departments. By taking away these pressures, this means that the police can deal with incidents of crime more effectively and the ambulance service can attend the most serious of incidents saving a combined loss of around 1.5 million hours per year.
LAS can attend with an emergency response in joint collaboration and liaise with its partners and commissioners to find the right solution at that time and without unnecessary delays and a waste of rescource hours.
